DIVING WITH DAD was held on Father’s day at Kokololiho Beach Park. Ideal weather contributed to a great family outing. All the kiddies “scored” with several prizes each. After registration and sounding of the starting gun the divers departed with their bag boys “Fathers /Uncles” and started to swim out to the reef area. For the smaller kekis, contact with fish was made shortly after entering the water, at the special fishing grounds provided by AHK-Terrence that insured all youngsters will catch a fish and qualify for prizes. Additionally, prizes were given to Kekei’s for gathering opala-trash. The adults got a handshake and thank you for their trash collecting effort. However, a number of parents either smiled and “Oooed or Ahhed” as some of the special prizes were awarded to their kin.
The tournament was a great success and for all those who attended, whether it was volunteering or being a participant it was relaxing and fun. The kids and their parents/chaperone will have memories for a life time. This year they were about 30 kids that went into the water, compared to the anticipated 40, said Terrence (tournament chair). May be it is the high gas price that affected the difference or perhaps other commitments, it was lucky for the kids that came. Prizes galore, it didn’t matter what place you finished in your age group, every “Keiki” had a big smile and a picture taken by Keith Uehara (professional photographer).
